There are two favorites at Gram’s house that all the kids clammer to play when they visit: Beans & Buttons.
She bought the plain old dry pinto, black, red & lima beans. The kids get out the mixing bowls, measuring cups, spoons and anything else that might be interesting that day and have at it. They sort, measure, dump and repeat.
The other winner is the collection of buttons my mother has amassed over the years. We use muffin tins to sort the buttons by shape, size, color etc. She has given each household their own collection and adds to it whenever she finds cute cupcake, clock, pig, truck, zebra, ladybug, or teapot buttons.
Ok, I love this youtube video. It always gives me such a good laugh. These kids are adorable & what a GREAT moment to catch on video. I never quite have my video ready for my crazy kid-moments. This can be the inspiration to keep that camcorder loaded and ready. Enjoy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_OBlgSz8sSM
BTW: do NOT show this to your kids lest they get the same idea, without the cute results. Knowing my kids, it would be all fun and games until one of them actually loses a finger
