  1. Clothes Swap
I had a hard time parting with the Polo jean jacket I got in high school because it was just SO stylish back then–and you know how the time to shop for stylish items has significantly decreased as a mother. But when it’s time to purge, it’s time to purge. I purged last week for a clothes swap, and gave most of my clothes to a women’s shelter. Not exactly you’re traditional service project, but a really fun night with a little altruism thrown in.

How it works: 1-you purge your closet of shoes, clothes and purses that don’t fit or you don’t need; 2-you drop your clothes off at the hostess’s house and pick up a ticket; all drop offs are anonymous; 3-you show up the night of the party/swap with a your ticket and a treat and “shop”; 4-all remain clothes are donated to a women’s shelter.

It was such a good motivation to purge my closet and since I knew the clothes were going to a shelter (and that it was anonymous) I freely contributed. I felt thrilled that I came home with a “free” t-shirt and a pair of rain boots, and happy that someone else could use something of mine.
